Background: The ongoing outbreak of Bundibugyo virus disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda underscores the continuing threat posed by emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and the urgent need to strengthen epidemic preparedness and response. Unlike Ebola virus disease caused by Zaire ebolavirus, there are currently no licensed vaccines or pathogen-specific therapeutics for Bundibugyo virus disease. The AFREhealth Emergency Ebola Webinar Series provides monthly updates on the evolving outbreak, response efforts, emerging research priorities, and lessons learned.
