The health sciences library plays a central role in supporting learning, teaching, research and patient care. The health sciences librarians therefore, must be equipped with skills and competences to support those core activities in their respective academic and research institutions.
The Library and Information Science TWG (LIS) therefore, is a group of librarians and information specialists from AFREhealth member institutions that are working together to support our institutions in the following ways:
1. Training of fellow librarians in a number of areas that support learning, teaching research and patient care, such as: information literacy, referencing and citation using available reference management tools; bibliometrics, institutional repositories and evidence synthesis.
2. Sharing experiences and best practices, and generally keeping updated on emerging information science-related issues, via webinars, conference presentations, seminars and publications
We are currently focusing on increasing the group numbers and hope to work together to implement our planned activities for this year.
