Prof Patricia Katowa-Mukwato is an Associate Professor of Nursing. She holds a Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing, a PhD in Medical Education from the University of Zambia and a Post Doctorate. Currently serving as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs at Mulungushi University, Zambia. She is also a fellow of the James Hakim Leadership Development Program. She has more than 12 years of higher education administration and 10 years of clinical practice. She served as Dean of the School of Nursing Sciences and the Assistant Dean of the School of Nursing and School of Medicine at the University of Zambia.
Her experience spans from developing and implementing specialized academic programmes, establishing a simulation laboratory, to setting up a satellite campus. She has won several grants funded by NORAD, the National Institute of Health, and the European Union, for capacity building in educational programmes for junior staff to pursue Masters, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral studies, teacher/student exchange, and evidence-based practice. She has published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers in the areas of evidence-based practice in nursing, health professions education and coping with chronic illness, with over 700 citations. As a professional nurse, Prof Katowa-Mukwato has held positions including being Chairperson of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia Board, Co-lead for the AFREhealth Southern Africa Chapter and Chairperson of the Research Faculty for East Central and Southern Africa College of Nursing and Midwifery (ECSACONM). She is very passionate about promoting teaching/learning, research, professionalism, networking and mentorship.
