Prof Edward Tieru Dassah is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at the School of Public Health, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi, Ghana. He is a graduate of KNUST (BSc, MBChB and MPH), and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London (PhD in Clinical Epidemiology), and a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS).
Prof Dassah has successfully collaborated and implemented several projects/studies, including being the Principal Investigator (PI) for STRIPE HIV interprofessional education/training for pre-service health students and professionals, a clinical trial on postpartum hemorrhage, chronic infections and hypertensive disorders, and minimally invasive gynaecological surgeries at KATH, and cervical cancer prevention projects in Ghana. His research has focused on women’s reproductive health, including family planning, improving perinatal outcomes, cervical cancer, and interprofessional education/training. He has over 50 peer-reviewed publications. Prof Dassah has delivered several presentations at both local and international conferences and contributed to policy briefs and book chapters. He has served on several committees/boards at both local and international levels. Currently, he is a Country Ambassador for the International Papillomavirus Society and a Guest and Associate Editor for the BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth journal. Specific to this nomination, he has served as a member of the AFREhealth Finance and Fund Development Subcommittee, a consultant and team member for grant applications, a mentor, and a reviewer of abstracts for, and actively participated in AFREhealth annual conferences.
