Delfina Fernandes Hlashwayo

Delfina Fernandes Hlashwayo is a university assistant lecturer and researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences of Eduardo Mondlane University since 2017. She currently serves as an academic editor for PLOS ONE and PLOS Global Public Health. In addition, Delfina is a member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, as well as the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World.

Delfina is currently a PhD candidate in Biosciences and Public Health at the Eduardo Mondlane University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Her research was supported by the Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health through the Enhancing Advanced Biomedical Training in Mozambique (EABTM) program, under the guidance of Professor Emilia Noormahomed and Professor Robert Schooley.

Throughout her academic journey, Delfina has been recognized for her dedication and academic achievements, receiving scholarships and awards in her field. Recently, in 2022, she was honored with the Rising Star award for emerging HIV investigators from the Center for AIDS Research of the University of California, San Diego.

Delfina's research focuses on important aspects of public health, including the study of antibiotic resistance among bacterial pathogens, analysis of the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts, and the ethnopharmacological exploration of herbal remedies and their impact on public health. Her work aims to contribute to the field and address critical challenges in healthcare.
