Oathokwa Nkomazana

Oathokwa Nkomazana is an ophthalmologist with an MSc in Community Eye Health (Public Health) and a PhD in Family Medicine (Human Resources for Primary healthcare). She is currently an Associate Professor of Public Health and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Botswana. Prof Nkomazana has practised ophthalmology and public health in Botswana for more than 20 years. She led the national prevention of blindness programme for 10 years. Internationally, she is on the External Advisory Panel of the International Centre for Eye Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and non-executive Director of the Botswana-based Catalyst for Health Equity, of the University of Pennsylvania. She is one of the founding members of AFREhealth and its Governing Council until August 2022. From October 2018 to May 2020, she was appointed Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the University of Botswana (UB), responsible for research and academic affairs. 

Her research spans broad areas of clinical, health professions education, public health, and human resources for health. She has been PI and co-PI in several collaborative research and training grants.  She is an academic editor for Plos One Journal and has more than 40 peer reviewed publications.
