Prof. Jean Nachega
Prof Nachega is a Professor Extraordinary at Stellenbosch University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Cape Town, South Africa; and a tenured Associate Professor of Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh, USA; and Adjunct Associate Professor of Epidemiology and International Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, MD, USA. He received his training in Belgium (University of Louvain), UK (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine), USA (Johns Hopkins University & Harvard University). He has over 25 years of experience in patient care, teaching, designing, and implementing HIV/AIDS studies or programs funded by NIH/NIAID, PEPFAR, EDCTP, and Wellcome Trust. He authored more than 240 peer-reviewed publications. Prof. Nachega was the recipient of the 2022 International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care award for outstanding contribution to HIV treatment adherence research, with evidence of scientific impact as well as the mentorship of younger investigators in US and Africa. He is an ad hoc expert consultant for Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; US Centers for Diseases Control & Preventions (CDC); and at World Health Organization (WHO) as well as a member-elect of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa (ASSAf) and African Academy of Sciences (AAS).
