Adedayo Faneye

Dr. Adedayo Faneye, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Virology at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. With expertise in microbiology, virology, and molecular biology, Dr. Faneye specializes in viruses of medical significance in Africa. Since 2015, they have served as the Laboratory Manager of the PEPFAR-supported APIN HIV laboratory, where they play a critical role in providing viral diagnosis, surveillance, and treatment monitoring for HIV patients at the University College Hospital Ibadan. Dr. Faneye's academic training and experience have allowed them to establish in-house PCR-based diagnostic protocols for detecting viral diseases of medical importance in Nigeria. These protocols are now used not only in the general diagnosis laboratory of their department but also in other laboratories within the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) laboratory network. With a Ph.D. in molecular virology, Dr. Faneye's thesis focused on the molecular characterization of measles virus among children with fever and maculopapular rash in Nigeria, laying the foundation for their expertise in molecular virology. Dr. Faneye's research is focused on investigating host and viral factors associated with the development of viral-related cancers, particularly liver and HPV-associated cancers. This project is supported by two NIH grants and one institutional training grant, showcasing their technical background and leadership skills. Dr. Faneye also actively pursues professional development through training in research ethics, study designs, data analysis, manuscript writing, and laboratories' quality management systems, contributing to their ability to conduct successful research projects. In addition to their research, Dr. Faneye is an investigator for the PROVE Project in Nigeria, demonstrating their commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and public health initiatives related to viral diseases.
