Starting mid-June 2021, AFREhealth is launching a leadership development training program for mid-career health professionals. This initiative will support the next generation of health professional leaders across sub-Saharan Africa to acquire skills to lead successful health programs and be decisive leaders, effective mentors, and dynamic communicators. The program will also promote inclusive approaches to leadership that prioritize interprofessional collaboration and diversity in health care leadership in Africa
Course Objectives
Prepare next generation leaders to lead high-quality programs with cultural awareness and humility, critical thinking, and diplomacy
Equip leaders with foundational competencies in project design, resource mobilization, conflict management, and mentorship
Curriculum
Participants will learn how to promote organizational development, work effectively across cultures and cadres, and network. Competencies will be acquired through active and reflective learning on six topics:
- Understanding Your Leadership Style
- Conflict Management
- Change Management & Sustaining Change
- Project Design & Management
- How to Be a Better Mentor
- Budgeting, Resource Mobilization & Partnership Development
Delivery methods and learning activities
The program will consist of a weekly seminar, biweekly workshops, independent work, and pre-session readings:
- Interactive workshops with content experts
- Individual leadership coaching with mentors
- Small group discussions around the progress of the participant projects
- Independent projects/ capstone proposal
