NIH Grant Writing for Success

The proposed workshop is targeted to young investigators who are planning to submit a research grant application to NIH and will focus on developing specific components of their proposal: Specific Aims, Significance, Innovation, Approach, Title and Abstract. The overall goal of the workshop is to help participants build on feedback from peers and workshop instructors with successful grant applications.

Learning Objectives:

  • To learn about the NIH funding mechanisms including Career Development (K Awards) and Research Program Grants (R Awards), the NIH grant review process and strategies on how to prepare a successful grant application for these awards.
  • To improve each participant’s ability to develop and write a scientifically well-conceived research proposal, using NIH’s proposal template as a model
  • Consider how to create realistic timelines
  • Understand the structure of a proposal budget
  • List major components of a project budget
  • Understand common mistakes to avoid in proposal writing
  • Share in the value of ‘top tips’ for submitting successful proposals
